Residents of Gladwin County in need of help have been looking to the Sacred Heart Mission for Gladwin Co Mi a 501(c)3 organization for over 40 years. Its origins can be traced back to the 1970s when several women of Sacred Heart Parish became interested in mission work.
Due to growing needs, the Mission expanded to its current location in the former VFW Hall at 220 S. James Robinson Drive, Gladwin, MI in front of the Gladwin Sports Complex off Cedar Avenue. This move dramatically increased the visibility and outreach to those in need in Gladwin County.
The work of the Mission is guided by Fr. J. Marcel Portelli and a dedicated board of directors composed of volunteers representing other area organizations. Our clients are of varied beliefs and backgrounds.
The Mission coordinator, Aggie Mackie, is all about bringing sunshine into the lives of others. In addition to basic services, the Mission is able to meet other emergency needs such as assistance with but not limited to: utilities, propane, water bills, prescriptions, energy bills, auto repair. In the event of fire loss, the Mission offers food, clothing assistance and household items for the dispossessed. In these and countless other ways, volunteers and supporters regularly help those in need.
We also refer you to other agencies if the need arises:
Fr. John Cotter, former pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, says the Mission is "Christian action at its best. The Gospel is being proclaimed by how we live and what we are doing to help others."
Donations of non-perishable food items and gently used, clean clothing and household items can be dropped off at the mission during hours of operation.
