St. Pope John Paul II referred to the family as the “domestic church.” In other words, your home is the heartbeat of faith where God’s love is lived out daily. As parents, you are the first and primary catechists of your children in the faith. What does it mean to be the primary catechist? Every moment in your home (the domestic Church) can be a teaching moment. Our mission is to support you as a valuable resource in this effort.
Religious education and sacramental preparation programs are offered at Sacred Heart and St. Athanasius Parishes for elementary school children. Children are taught the basics of the faith in order to seek: deepen the child’s existing relationship with God, encourage formation of a personal prayer life, enable a fuller participation in liturgical and sacramental life of the Church, and develop a deeper understanding of Catholic identity and tradition. We help the parents prepare their child for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation. Each lesson, one or both parents, work with their child with the help of the Director of Religious to be prepared for each sacrament. The programs operate September-May:
At Sacred Heart it is held on Sundays from 9:45am-11:15am.
Vacation Bible Schools, Christmas plays, and other events are also held.
